Designs

After drawing my thumbnails I then photocopied some designs enlarged, reduced! I started to think about how I would create these designs using fabric manipulation techniques and what textures and sufaces, weights of fabric I would use! Below are just some of my thumbnails and designs that have made swatches from!

The rope like shape I used hand dyed calico fabric and a technique called rouloo stuffed with wadding then tied thread around to separate each part. On the bottom I used a different fabric because the bottom part of the design is more of a loose shape so I pleated the fabric, the almost decorative top part of the design I used a piece of yarn and tied small pieces of fabric as the small pieces that hang from the line. I looked at them more as being an organic, than a diamond like shape they are in the design, I just felt that the other parts of the design were controlled so it would be nice to have something more free.

Finised Fabric Swatch of the above design

Below are more thumbnails but I have taken parts of these designs zoomed in and repeated areas
